Hamid Baroudi

Hamid BaroudiHamid Baroudi (*1964) grew up in Algeria. He played his first concert in 1976. He moved to France in 1981 and 1984 to Germany, where he studied Arts and Film.
After playing as a street-musician he became worldwide popular through his six year work with the Dissidenten. They toured worldwide and were a leading group in the first world-music movement.
As a solo artist (backed up by me on the drums:-) ) he toured with Peter Gabriels WOMAD-Festival-Line-Up through Singapore, Australia, England, Spain, etc..

His first big hit „Caravan to Baghdad“ was on the islamic index-list in 1991. Nevertheless the track made itself to the top of the LP-charts in 17 Lcountries. Until today it is one of the most popular songs in the arabian world.

The CD „Sidi“ made it to #6 in the world-music-charts in Europe and the title-track featuring Mohammed Mounir was #1 in Egypt for a long time.

Here you can find more information about him:
